KATHMANDU, Dec 13: The Ministry of Agriculture Development has so far provided a compensation of 211 million 679 thousand rupees to the poultry farmers and businesses concerned for the loss of chicks, eggs, bird feed and chicken due to the spread of bird flu at six different places.
The rapid spread of avian influenza in poultry since mid-July had caused big damage to the poultry business. The damage incurred by the poultry business was Rs. 81 million in Bhaktapur, Rs. 4.86 million in Kathmandu, Rs. 1.29 million in Makawanpur, Rs. 2.59 million in Lalitpur, Rs. 11 million in Kavre and Rs. 169 thousand in Sindhupalchowk. Joint Spokesperson at the Ministry, Tek Prasad Luintel, said compensation commensurate with the losses incurred was provided to the poultry famers and entrepreneurs in these districts.
Similarly, he said a decision has been taken to provide 4,910 metric tonnes of wheat seed at 35 per cent subsidy. It was being sold accordingly, he said.
