Shah Rukh keen to work with Sunny Leone

MUMBAI, DEC 13 -
Superstar Shah Rukh Khan , who was spotted at the premiere of adult movies star-turned Bollywood actress Sunny Leone-starrer "Jackpot", hopes to work with her someday.
She made her Bollywood debut with 2012 film "Jism 2" and the superstar has shown interest in working with her.
srk
"I have never been part of casting my films. Directors do it. If there is a film, I will be fortunate enough to work with Sunny Leone," Shah Rukh said here Thursday.
The Kaizad Gustad directorial hit the theatres this Friday.

Nothing substantive

The new Bollywood release, Jackpot is supposed to be a ‘suspense thriller’. One would naturally expect to find numerous turns and twists in the plot in such films, looking forward to an exciting hour or two in which your mind will not dither from what happens on screen. But Jackpot does not do any of these things. If the film does create any effect on the audience, it is only that of annoyance and irritation. There were two major attractions to the film before its release with regards to its cast members. Naseeruddin Shah, a man known for his superlative acting skills, and Sunny Leone, the porn star turned Bollywod actor. Sadly, neither of the two actors—not even the incomparable Shah—is able to offer anything good to the audience. The film is a disastrous, good-for-nothing waste of time.
-
Like most Bollywood suspense thrillers, Jackpot revolves around a few hundred crore rupees, many instances of backstabbing and quite a substantial number of murders. Maya (Leone), Francis (Sachin Joshi) and the owner of Casino Jackpot (played by Shah) play a game of Russian roulette in hopes to making that big leap towards monetary excess. The film feels like it has been lazily written from the very outset and director Kaizad Gustad (who was responsible for the 2003 debacle that was Boom) makes no effort to turn that writing into an interesting film. The concept has some calibre, to be fair, but no one related to the making of the film seems to have been able to make it worth watching.Jackpot leaves you sad and exhausted by the end; The only good thing about it being its length—at an hour and 40 minutes, the film is shorter that most Hindi movie s.The one thing I kept wondering throughout the 100 minutes I spent in the theatre was why a genius like Shah had signed on to a film like Jackpot. Shah looked quite insincere in his scenes, and the less said about the other two actors the better. Leone and Joshi are simply not made for acting, and the supporting cast seemed as shallow as the script. If suspense thrillers are to work, they need to be made intelligently; there is no mid-way here. Films like Jackpot, with no entertainment quotient and no cinematic value, are only a test of our patience. Why would anyone want to spend their hard-earned money on watching such a pointless film? There are many other things that are worth paying attention to.

Big parties eye CA settlement

KATHMANDU, DEC 14Major political parties are working on a “consensus proposal” to settle the UCPN (Maoist) demands, including an investigation into alleged vote rigging, in the Constituent Assembly ( CA ) itself.
-
Key negotiators from the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML said the Maoist party responded positively to their proposal of forming a parliamentary committee to probe the alleged poll irregularities after they agreed to reiterate their commitment “to not backtrack from secularism, republicanism and federalism.”
“Though there has not been any express commitment, Maoist leaders, including Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, sounded more flexible on Wednesday as they were positive on dealing with the vote fraud allegations in the parliament,” UML leader Bhim Rawal said.
So far, the UCPN (Maoist) had been opposing the NC and UML proposal to settle all disputes through the CA .
An alliance of 16 parties—Federal Democratic Republic Alliance (FDRA)—led by the Maoist chairman had earlier decided to stay away from the CA process until their demands are met.
A key negotiator said that Dahal would need a few more days to discuss the NC and UML’s ‘consensus proposal’ with his alliance partners and come up with a decision.
On Friday, the FDRA rejected the proposal and said it will not be part of the CA until a high-level probe commission is formed to look into the ‘vote rigging.’
Still, negotiators said there was a possibility of a “trade-off” between the commission and appointments in top positions in the new political set-up, which would accommodate the dissenting parties.
Leaders in the FDRA said such a ‘trade-off’ would be possible only in the “second stage of negotiations,” while the first stage will focus on the formation of a commission to probe the ‘poll irregularities’ and owning up past achievements made in the erstwhile CA .
Though the NC and the UML have been publicly saying that they would own up the major achievements of the previous CA , the Maoist party is still doubtful, given the changed power balance.
On power sharing, the UML has already proposed sharing top five political posts—president, vice-president, prime minister, speaker and chairman of the constitutional committee—among the major political parties.
A senior Madhesi leader, also a member of the FDRA, sounded confident of a “win-win agreement” from the ongoing negotiations.
Maoist leaders sounded cautiously optimistic. “I am not sure whether a deal would be signed tomorrow, but from the negotiations I gather that the NC and the UML will positively respond to our demands,” said Maoist leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha.
UML leaders also said the HLPC will be dissolved right after a new consensus agreement is signed.
“Since an elected body is in place, the HLPC will be no more in existence,” said UML General  Secretary Ishwor Pokharel.

IBN receives green signal to West Seti

KATHMANDU, Dec 13The Investment Board of Nepal (IBN) can now proceed ahead with the West Seti Hydropower Project, one of the much talked projects in the country.
The bodies concerned of late are agreed in principle for resolving problems seen regarding the project which lies in the Far Western Development Region. The Board has received a letter from bodies concerned including the ministries of energy, finance, land reform and management informing that agreement in principle has been reached to resolve the local-level problems in connection with the project. The letter has paved the way for the IBN for holding negotiations with investors about the matters of accelerating the project. The IBN is expected to gear up for necessary preparations for investment agreement and talks with the investing company side by side. The Chinese Three Gorges Corporation is the main investor of the 750-megawatt-project.

Construction of transmission line, rehabilitation of the people of project-affected area and power purchase agreement are the matters of concern of Corporation, according to Board Joint Secretary Mukunda Poudel. The Board assured the company that it would present the matters raised by the company before the stakeholders concerned and seek solutions to all problems through discussions.
The Nepal Government and the Chinese investor last year agreed in principle to proceed with the project works. The preliminary feasibility study of project had begun around 20 years ago by the Australian company Snowy Mountain. But, following no progress in the study process, the government annulled the license of the Australian company and moved to the IBN to expedite the project works. Doti, Dadeldhura, Bajhang and Bajura are the most affected areas from the project. The project has been delayed due to several issues associated with the project including the resettlement plan for the project-affected, land acquisition, power purchase agreement rate for the project and transmission line.
The estimated cost of the reservoir-type project is around Rs. 200 billion. Of the total cost, the Nepal Government will bear 25 per cent and remaining 75 per cent will be invested by the Three Gorges.
Around 10 per cent shares of project will be allocated to the locals. Where and how to resettle the people to be displaced by the project has been the matters of debate for a long time.
The Ministry of Land Reform and Management has given verbal commitment to make necessary arrangements for the resettlement of the affected people. The Ministry of Land Reform will present a draft of rehabilitation plan, Joint Secretary Poudel said.
The project is expected to begin from 2014 and complete by 2020 and help promote drinking water, irrigation and tourism sectors, especially in the far-west.

Not extending CA tenure my biggest mistake: Bhattarai

KATHMANDU, Dec 13: Ex-Prime Minister and senior leader of UCPN (Maoist) Dr Baburam Bhattarai has said that his failure to extend the tenure of Constituent Assembly was a blunder.

The erstwhile Prime Minister, on his facebook page, wrote that CA dissolution was also a reason behind his party´s humiliating defeat in the second Constituent Assembly election. "I was ready to risk taking the blame and propose extending the tenure of CA, after announcing state of emergency - as the last resort for continuation of CA - on May 27, 2012. I made my thoughts public as well. But I could not sustain opposition, from other parties as well as my own party members, and backed out. I humbly accept that it proved to be the biggest mistake my life."

In his facebook status, Dr Bhattarai has also confessed that his party could not become and did not appear any different from other parties, despite their plans of establishing the best of state administration, society and culture. Hinting towards the election results, Bhattarai has added that people did not want to risk a new force, and hence preferred the older forces, which again are no good.

He has expressed commitments on national independence, inclusive democracy, inclusive patriotism and inclusive development. He has also hinted towards cooperation with other people and organization (than his own party), who are like minded, in future.

Govt approves Rs 2.5m reward for Bista, Manandhar

KATHMANDU, DEC 12 -Legendary marathon runner Baikuntha Manandhar and taekwondo ace Deepak Bista are all set to receive Rs 2.5 million reward each for their standout medal haul at the South Asian Games. The cabinet meeting on Wednesday endorsed the recommendation made by the National Sports Council (NSC) in March last year to felicitate players who have won three or more gold medals at the South Asian Games (SAG), two medals in Asian Games including agold or Olympic medal with a cash of Rs 2.5 million for housing purpose. Both the athletes welcomed the decision saying it will attract more youngsters into sports. “I am very happy to hear the news even though the government took two years to approve the recommendation but like they say better late than never,” was Bista’s response to the decision.
Bista is the only player to win four consecutive gold medals in the SA Games. Bista, only the second Nepali player after fellow taekwondo star Sangina Baidhya to qualify for the Olympics, won his first SA Games gold during the eighth edition held on home soil in 1999. He then added three more gold
-medals in Karachi (2002), Colombo (2006) and Dhaka (2010).  “This is a good incentive for players and will help encourage the young generation,” added Bista.
Manandhar has won three SA Games gold medals including the meet record of 2:15:03 set during the third edition in Kolkata in 1987. “I hung up my boots a long time ago and was not expecting a reward as big as this. Cash rewards at my age are always welcome,” said Manandhar.  “This will encourage players to go the extra mile for the gold medal as they know there are rewards awaiting them.”
NSC issued a press release expressing their gratitude to thegovernment for the decision. Meanwhile, Nepal National and International Players Association (NNIPA) has welcomed the cabinet decision. “We thank the government for making such a good decision. I am sure rewards like this will boost the morale of the players,” said the General Secretary of NNIPA Deepak Shrestha.
