CHITWAN, Dec 13: As many as 700 persons have been tested positive for dengue virus across the nation since the last five months.According to a Chitwan-based Public Health Office, 316 cases of dengue fever were diagnosed in Chitwan of which 137 cases were found in Bharatpur Municipality alone. Likewise, 194 cases in Jhapa, 160 cases in Parsa, 2 in Rautahat, 4 in Kanchanpur and 10 cases have been foud in Rupandehi district, a record maintained at Epidemiology and Disease Control Directorate shows. A group of 120 volunteers led by Disease and Vector Control Inspector of Chitwan district Ram KC has been running a three-day dengue elimination campaign in the district. It started on Thursday and will last on Saturday.

The dengue virus is caused by a bite of s striped Aedes aegypti mosquito.
After being bitten by a mosquito carrying the virus, the incubation period ranges from three to 15 days before the signs and symptoms of dengue appear in stages.

Dengue symptom starts with chills, headache, pain upon moving the eyes, and low backache. Painful aching in the legs and joints occurs during the first hours of illness.
The mosquito can breed in water-filled flower pots, plastic bags, and cans mostly during the rainy season.
The pandemic had seriously hit the district in 2010.
